We’re on a Style Me Pretty roll — featured again, this time for an artistic garden wedding shot by Jose Villa. This wedding was full of creative details, many of them from the bride herself. It’s not every day that DIY turns out so insanely beautiful, but perhaps the exception is when the bride is Julie Song of Julie Song Ink. She crafted the fabulous paper (and non-paper) goods — the watercolor invitations, the wood-burned escort card coasters, the handpainted signs. They added such a whimsical and beautiful depth to the wedding. I’ll be posting a more thorough look at the wedding shortly.
Here’s a preview of the feature, which describes the wedding as “culturally rooted and wildly chic.” It definitely was: hundreds (actually, a thousand) origami paper cranes, lush tropical leaves mixed in with dramatic airplants and succulents, every shade of coral possible, but all very elegant and delicate. You’ll see when you see it!

I’m happy to announce my debut on Style Me Pretty: Kristen & Adam’s beautiful Palm Springs wedding! The writers at Style Me Pretty often speak in superlatives (“we are literally dying over this wedding!” etc) — but that said, they did have some extremely nice things to say about Kristen & Adam’s wedding. Founder & Editor Abby Larson wrote:
If ever there was a wedding featured on Style Me Pretty that I so wished I could have attended…it would be this one. A Moroccan inspired celebration rich in food, family, wine and most of all, some of the most beautiful texture and style I think I’ve ever seen in a wedding celebration.

Hot off the presses….I’m quoted in the current issue of Destination Weddings & Honeymoons. Maryann Hammers wrote an article called “Where to Marry in California” and she asked planners across the state for their favorite spots, from vineyards to forests to beaches (since California pretty much has it all). One of the things I love about planning events is discovering new venues. I think some people like working at the same spots over & over again. To be honest, it’s usually easier & planners and other vendors know what they’re getting into — but I have an explorer’s spirit. Send me off to a foreign island with tons of logistical quirks anytime…
I spoke with Maryann about my recommendations for the California desert…bet you didn’t see that coming since I’m based in the Bay area! I actually think the desert is an amazing space to get married. I don’t think it is associated with romance in the popular imagination as much as the coast or the forest, but it is actually one of the most dramatic and powerful landscapes I can think of.
I spoke specifically about Palm Springs, which is an oasis of beautiful design in the desert with a stunning backdrop of the San Jacinto Mountains. I love the mid-century architecture and the clean, crisp design of everything. That said, the venue I recommended has a completely different feel than the rest of Palm Springs — it’s the Korakia Pensione, an eclectic B&B with a romantic Moroccan/Meditteranean vibe.

The Winter/Spring 2012 issue of Pacific Weddings just hit newsstands — and a wedding I planned on the Big Island is inside! The 6-page feature is called “A Time to Love: A Classic Affair of Understated Elegance.” That sounds about right. The wedding epitomized understated elegance, a style I naturally appreciate. But, more importantly, it’s a style that suited the bride. Prior to marrying Rawleigh, Kate was VP of Human Resources at Ralph Lauren, so she was really drawn to a classic, unfussy aesthetic. I helped her realize that vision, especially for their ceremony on the beach at the Four Seasons Hualalai. I think this quote from the article sums it up: “With the aisle lined in beach grass, the scene could have been straight from the pages of a Ralph Lauren book.”
The article starts on page 66. Check it out — you can buy Pacific Weddings at most Barnes & Noble stores, especially on the West Coast. Kate tells a great story of her and Rawleigh’s courtship (although you might get jealous, as it involves trips to Rawleigh’s house in Maui, camping in Africa, and a surprise engagement). And there are, of course, also some beautiful photos thanks to Mike Adrian.
Here’s a little sneak peek of the cover & first page.
Exciting news — my wedding is featured on OnceWed today! Which wedding, you ask? My wedding, as in my personal wedding, with me as the bride! Check it out here.
